PGN GAGAS Dukung Perluasan Bauran Energi Nasional Melalui CNG

Jakarta — PT Gagas Energi Indonesia (“Gagas”), part of Pertamina’s Gas Subholding, welcomes the initiative of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) to conduct a comprehensive study on the utilization of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) as part of the national energy mix. For Gagas, this process represents an important momentum to expand the utilization options of domestically sourced natural gas energy in a measured and sustainable manner.

President Director of PGN Gagas, Santiaji Gunawan, stated that CNG development should be positioned as part of efforts to broaden energy choices, in line with the government’s policy direction.

“We see this not as replacing one energy source with another, but as expanding options. Both the public and business sectors require access to diverse energy sources that are reliable, affordable, and based on domestic resources. CNG is one of the energy options already available and can continue to be developed gradually in accordance with government policies,” said Santiaji.

For more than a decade, PGN Gagas has delivered CNG as an energy solution for industrial, commercial, MSME, and transportation sectors. In 2025, PGN Gagas distributed approximately 4,656,449 MMBTU of natural gas through its CNG and LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) services across these segments.

From an infrastructure perspective, Gagas currently operates 14 Gas Fuel Filling Stations (SPBG) across seven provinces, serving an average of approximately 2,200 vehicles per day through its Gasku service. Meanwhile, Gaslink services for industrial, commercial, and MSME segments have served more than 600 customers, with total gas distribution reaching 4,067,002 MMBTU throughout 2025.

Supported by gas compression facilities, a Gas Transport Module (GTM) fleet, and various supporting infrastructures, PGN Gagas possesses a solid operational foundation to support the gradual expansion of CNG utilization. This development will continue to align with government policy directions, taking into account economic feasibility, infrastructure readiness, and market demand.

Natural gas supply as the raw material for CNG is also integrated with the infrastructure network of PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (Persero) Tbk (PGN), thereby supporting optimal utilization of domestic energy resources.

PGN Gagas emphasized that the presence of CNG forms part of a complementary national energy ecosystem. As part of Pertamina’s Gas Subholding, Gagas is committed to growing alongside—rather than competing with—other energy sources, in accordance with the needs and characteristics of each user segment.

“The more diverse the available energy options, the stronger our national energy resilience becomes. CNG serves as one of the options that complements existing energy sources within the national energy mix framework,” Santiaji added.

PGN Gagas also expressed its readiness to actively collaborate with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and other stakeholders in future policy studies and development processes, including technical aspects, distribution, and education related to CNG utilization.

“We are ready to contribute optimally as a government partner, in line with established policy directions and national needs, to support the realization of national energy independence and resilience,” Santiaji concluded.
